The judiciary is becoming an important election issue. John McCain is warning conservatives that control of today's finely balanced Supreme Court depends on his election. Unfortunately, his jurisprudence is likely to be anything but conservative. |

ATLANTA, July 7, 2008:
Americans are deeply dissatisfied with the direction their country is going and desperately want real change," says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party presidential nominee. "But real change will not come from the two major parties, with their well-established commitment to the status quo. It will only come from outside the current system -- and through the Barr presidential campaign and the Libertarian Party."
The American people have made their feelings known in the latest Zogby poll, which found that six percent of them favor Libertarian Party nominee Bob Barr. "And that is without benefiting from all of the media attention paid to the primaries and the big advertising campaigns already initiated by the other parties," notes Barr.
At six percent "we have more than three times the support of any other alternative party," Barr explains. Seven percent of conservatives, 11 percent of independents, and 43 percent of libertarians said they backed the Barr campaign. Pollster John Zogby observed that "Bob Barr has some juice among conservatives..."
With this level of support, "which will only grow as the Barr campaign's message of limited government and individual liberty reaches more people, it is only fair for the American people to include the Libertarian Party nominee along with the candidates of the Democratic and Republican parties in all public forums, from candidate town halls to national debates," says Barr.
"The November election should be about issues, not personalities," notes Barr. "The American people have suffered for too long from the big-spending policies and partisan antics of Republicans and Democrats alike in Washington." The country desperately needs an alternative. "The latest poll demonstrates that the one real alternative is the Bob Barr campaign and the Libertarian Party," Barr adds.
Barr represented the 7th District of Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003, where he served as a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, as Vice-Chairman of the Government Reform Committee, and as a member of the Committee on Financial Services. Prior to his congressional career, Barr was appointed by President Reagan to serve as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, and also served as an official with the CIA.
Since leaving Congress, Barr has been practicing law and has teamed up with groups ranging from the American Civil Liberties Union to the American Conservative Union to actively advocate every American citizens' right to privacy and other civil liberties guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. Along with this, Bob is committed to helping elect leaders who will strive for smaller government, lower taxes and abundant individual freedom.

The Libertarian Party of Georgia wholeheartedly endorses Bob Barr for President of the United States. But just because we’ve made our decision doesn’t mean we aren’t paying attention to what the other candidates are saying.
On July 2nd, Barack Obama repeated an earlier announcement that he would make bribery and the draft parts of his administration. |

The recent arrest of Macon, Georgia radio talk show host, Shayne McBryde (WMAC News Talk 940) for possessing a small amount of cannabis in his home should light a fire under Georgia’s Gold Dome to decriminalize the personal and private possession of marijuana.

The Supreme Court of The United States today (6/26/08) decreed something that was obvious for the first 154 years of the country’s history: The Second Amendment recognizes an INDIVIDUAL right to keep and bear arms. In their decision on District Of Columbia v. Heller, the Supremes ruled 5 to 4 that Washington D.C.’s 32 year old handgun ban is unconstitutional. This is a huge victory for the Libertarian belief that we as individuals ultimately are responsible for our own safety and self-defense. It also reinforces the reasoning of The Founders who put the Second Amendment in to the Bill Of Rights: the government should not hold a monopoly on the means of lethal force; and only an armed citizenry can prevent even the most benevolent government from turning tyrannical.

Why do Libertarians think government is a problem rather than a solution? As residents in Benton Harbor, Michigan are finding out, it’s because government so frequently does not do what it says it will, or even what it is legally obligated to do.

The Libertarian National Convention has decided on the party's ticket. It took six ballots, but native son Bob Barr is the Libertarian candidate for President. The convention selected Wayne Allyn Root to complete the ticket as the Vice-Presidential candidate.
The Georgia delegation's vote was the same on all six ballots: 33 votes for Barr, and 2 votes for Dr. Mary Ruwart.
During his victory speech to the Convention, Barr singled out LPGa Chairman Daniel N. Adams for doing a dynamic job leading the Georgia party, and also for helping him secure the convention's nomination.
He's the Libertarian Party's OFFICIAL candidate now, so visit Bob Barr's campaign website at http://www.bobbarr2008.com. Donate your time or your money to make the Barr/Root ticket the LP's biggest since Ed Clark got 1.1% of the vote in 1980...or since John Hospers and Tonie Nathan were the last third-party candidates to receive an Electoral College vote back in 1972!
Your Libertarian Party of Georgia will support the official team of Bob Barr and Wayne Allyn Root to the best of our ability. Please increase that ability -- go to http://www.LPGeorgia.com/donate.html to join LPGa, or to renew or upgrade your membership, or to join the LPGeorgia Pledge Program. As Bob Barr reminded the Convention, there are only 163 days until the November election! So... join, renew, upgrade, pledge...do them NOW!
Those looking for the details and gossip about the Presidential nomination drama should check out the blog site of LPGa Legislative Director Jason Pye.
The Libertarian Party Of Georgia sends a big "Thank You" to the 35 delegates who made the trip to Denver to participate in the convention. Not only have they served Georgia Libertarians well, they are having a ton of fun! You can see some of what you missed when you stayed home this Memorial Day weekend by checking out C-SPAN's endless rebroadcasts of the Presidential debate and voting.
The next National convention will be in 2010. Start planning now to represent Georgia, and you'll have the time of your life! |
