Other ideas & notes:

There are also Atlanta Jazz Festivals (spring was May 21-28 & fall = Montreux is August 24 to Sept. 3)
The National Black Arts Festival Next event = July 19-21, 2001, they have multiple events per year and claim over a million attendees per year.
Friends of Sweet Auburn also hold various events throughout the year. Auburn Avenue is of course one of the most historic streets in Atlanta and one of the most famous places relating to the black community outside of Harlem.
There are also many charity events to volunteer in as a group. We did Hands On Atlanta last year. There is the Atlanta Avon Breast Cancer "3-Day" on October 5th to 7th. Looks like it already too late to register for that event this year.
There are also great fall Atlanta Falcons football games, Atlanta Braves baseball games, Georgia Tech football games
