Learn Guerilla Activism at the May LP DeKalb Meeting
Tucker, GA (May 28th, 2003) -

When: Wednesday, May 28 -- gather by 7 p.m., meeting to begin at 7:30
Where: The Old Hickory House 2202 Northlake Parkway Tucker, GA 30084 770-939-8621 **

Speaker: Philip Bradley, Chair of the LP of Clayton County and member of the very active Southern Crescent Team. A gifted speaker, Philip will speak on the topic of "Guerilla Activism."

Background: The Clayton LP and Southern Crescent Team spearheaded the "Fran Walker Project" in Forest Park, where city law made it mandatory that all rental properties be inspected. More and more cities are passing ordinances that require owners of rental properties and rental communities to waive their 4th amendment protections and grant city inspectors access to their properties -- all without a warrant or probable cause. Forest Park was even prosecuting landlords until the local LP persuaded them to change their ways. One man paid over $1100 in fines. Fran Walker paid thousands of dollars in attorney fees before the Clayton Libertarian Party came on the scene -- and got the law overturned.

Before the Fran Walker Project, the southside fielded four (yes, 4) candidates in the fall elections. Although none of them won their races, all did respectably at the polls -- this despite the uphill battle of petitioning to get on the ballot in the first place. The Southern Crescent Team is getting their names and faces in front of their constituents and their success with and for Fran Walker shows it.

The Clayton LP and Southern Crescent Team made a difference in their little part of the world ... and we can, too. Philip wants to show us how ... so come get energized!

** We encourage you to come early and buy dinner at the Old Hickory House -- they offer pork, chicken and beef, as well as a variety of vegetables, all reasonably priced.

Tucker Day 2003 outreach
Tucker, GA (May 10th, 2003)
- The LP of DeKalb will again have a Operational Politically Homeless outreach booth at the annual Tucker Day community celebration. This year's event is held Saturday May 10th. LPDC needs booth volunteers and donations to pay for the booth rental and literature. Please contact a LPDC officer to volunteer either. OPH booths were invented by the Advocates for Self-Government and are a great way to find new libertarians and start non-libertarians on the path towards discovery of the blessings of true, consistent liberty in all public policy. The Tucker Day celebration is held on Tucker's Main Street, has approximately 18,000 attendees, and runs from 9am to 5pm.

Dunwoody, GA (July 4th, 2003) -
For the second year in a row, the DeKalb chapter of the Libertarian Party of Georgia will participate in the Dunwoody 4th of July Parade. Sponsored by the Dunwoody Homeowners Association and the Dunwoody Crier newspaper, the parade boasts they had 2000 participants and over 15,000 spectators in 2002.

WHEN: Thursday, July 4, 2003 -- parade begins at 9:30 a.m., rain or shine

WHERE: Begins at assembly area in Mt. Vernon Shopping Center (triangle formed by Mt. Vernon Road, Jett Ferry Road and Dunwoody Club Drive) and proceeds west 2-1/2 miles on Mt. Vernon Road to the Dunwoody Village Shopping Center. MAP to Starting Point

This is an excellent opportunity for an early morning stroll in support of this most Libertarian of American holidays. This year we will use a pickup truck to convey Lady Liberty in grand style ... she's a perennial crowd pleaser, and we are currently accepting offers to volunteer for the position. Contact Pat Brookshire at brookie@mindspring.com if you would like to wear the Lady Liberty crown and hold high the torch of liberty!

To join the Parade, gather at Mt. Vernon Shopping Center between 8:30-9:30 a.m. on the morning of the 4th. Wear your best LP t-shirt or patriotic colors -- we'll have signs, flags and a surprise or two to share with the crowd along the parade path.

Think you can join us for the event? Drop us a quick e-mail note at brookie@mindspring.com or call 404/373-8369 so we can plan for enough signage, etc.
