Annual Tax Day Outreach
Part of the enjoyment of life is celebrating special occasions. Anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays all hold a unique place in people's hearts. We look forward to these annual occasions with a great deal of delight and expectation. And then there's TAX DAY! If there ever was a day entirely devoted towards feeling frustration and aggravation, then tax day is surely it.
But we in the LP Dekalb are going to turn this normally negative experience into an opportunity to spread the message of liberty and remind people that the United States did not always have an income tax. That's right, it's time for our annual Tax Day Protest & Outreach. For those of you not familiar with the annual Tax Day event, think of it as way to associate the opposition of income taxes with the Libertarian Party in the mind of the citizen taxpayer. We place it at a busy post office on the income tax filing deadline, with crowds of very receptive people lining up for the chance to hear some good news about their tax free Libertarian future. Can you say "Opportunity"?
As always, our outreach will be held at the City of Decatur Main Post Office located at 520 W Ponce De Leon Ave., Decatur, GA on April 16th, from 10:00 A.M. to about 8:00 P.M. or possibly later. All LP Georgia members in metro-Atlanta are invited to participate. Last year at least 5 metro counties were represented.
I would appreciate it if anyone who believes that they would like to stop by would contact me via E-mail or by phone and give me some idea as to when and for how long you would like to help out. The peak times for traffic at past events have been from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.m. My contact information is:
William A. Casino, Bcasino@bellsouth.net, 770-469-4891.
We will have signs for spreading the anti-income tax message and Libertarian Party flyers to be handed out. You are welcome to bring your own sign if you prefer, but please remember to keep the message short, clear, positive, and upbeat. Someone from LP Dekalb's Executive Committee will be on site throughout the day and we will bring a cooler with ice for keeping water and drinks. We recommend you dress comfortably, yet neat. There is very likely going to be some local press.
