FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ATLANTA - The Libertarian Party of Georgia renews its call for passage of Senate Bill 1, the Budget Act, which would require appropriators to review a quarter of the state budget every year to remove waste and ineffective programs (also know as zero-based budgeting).

This much needed legislation unanimously passed the State Senate last year and is now stalled in the House Committee on Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight.

The Libertarian Party of Georgia sadly bids goodbye to activist Alex Chandler. The 25 year old freedom-fighter was killed in a motorcycle accident in Clayton County on September 24, 2009.

Alex was a Georgia delegate to the Libertarian National Convention in 2008, where he impressed the entire delegation with his honesty, his loyalty to his family, and his commitment to freedom. More recently he was working at organizing a party affiliate in Fayette County.

A memorial service for Alex Chandler will be held at Friendship Presbyterian Church in the Pike County town of Concord, at 1004 Pedenville Road. Family and friends will gather there at 3 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2009.

Alex’s family has requested that everyone who knew him attend the memorial in the spirit of celebration. If you were a motorcycle friend, come to the service on your bike and in your gear. Activists should wear their buttons and shirts with the strongest freedom messages. Those who knew him as an Eagle Scout should feel free to come in their uniforms. Alex’s father believes strongly that this is what Alex would have wanted.

Alex Chandler was a carpenter, builder, and draftsman by trade. He was a member of the Newnan-Coweta Lions Club, and Liberty Baptist Church of Riverdale. As an Eagle Scout and lover of the outdoors, he served as an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 123 in the town of Zebulon.

Our thoughts go out to Alex’s family: his parents Ruth Goeller Chandler and Walker Chandler of Molena and Peachtree City; brother Zebulon Kelly Chandler of Atlanta; step brother Aaron Gordon; and sister Canada Johanna Gordon and her husband Kirby Smith of Los Angeles. Other surviving family include grandmother Nedra Goeller, aunt and uncles Bill and Cynthia Ketner and Gary Goeller, Dr. James and Carol Chandler Dew, Dr. and Mrs. David Jones, Tommy and Judy Jones, and Mark and Barbara Chandler, as well as numerous cousins.

Alex came by his Libertarian beliefs at an early age. His father, attorney Walker Chandler, was the Libertarian Party Of Georgia’s candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1990 and again in 1994. The senior Chandler won a landmark suit in front of the US Supreme Court that overturned a Georgia requirement that all candidates for office submit to drug testing as a condition for being on the ballot.

Alex’s commitment to fellowship, service, and volunteerism will continue to inspire his family, friends and community. The Libertarian Party of Georgia already misses his energy and commitment to personal liberty.

Requiescat in pace.

There is a bill working its way through the US Senate called “The Cybersecurity Act Of 2009” (S-773). Among other things, the bill would require all servers connected to the world wide web provide certain information to the federal government and submit to government review of ‘security’ measures including personnel. It also would give the President authority to declare a “cybersecurity emergency,” and thereby allow the government to seize and silence any private website...

Once again the CDC and NIH and other agencies of government are warning that we’re all gonna die. Three years ago avian flu was going to kill us. This year it’s supposed to be swine flu. What will it be next year, the SpongeBob flu?

We are Libertarians and we are suspicious of our government’s pronouncements. As the administration maneuvers to cram socialized medicine down our throat it needs a boogieman...

Last week the Honduran military deposed President Manuel Zelaya. President Barack Obama -- along with Venezuelan despot Hugo Chavez, Nicaraguan tyrant Daniel Ortega, Cuba’s notorious Fidel and Raul Castro, the Organization Of American States that those dictators now control, and the United Nations -- has condemned the coup as a violation of the rule of law. He says it marks a retreat from democratic liberty.

The Libertarian Party of Georgia, after rolling on the floor laughing, respectfully disagrees with our President, the OAS, the UN, and the South American dictators...

Saturday, June 6 is the 65th anniversary of D-Day. It was on that day in 1944 that Dwight Eisenhower, supreme commander of Allied forces, launched the invasion of France that led to the ultimate defeat of Nazi Germany and the victorious end of World War II. Preparations involved 150,000 soldiers and 5000 ships, yet plans remained secret from Germany -- a phenomenal accomplishment that would not be possible in today’s world of satellite reconnaissance...

To “the greatest generation” that fought the war, the struggle between allies and axis powers was the basic good-versus-evil fight to the death. Had Operation Overlord failed, it is probable that all of continental Europe would still be under the jackboot of National Socialism...
